You can also describe Gist Tracker as our on-site notification system, but only notifies about Gists and Clips, other notifications are still sent by old means of e-mail or site inbox, enjoy!

Get your #Hashtags on!

Starting today, Gistcaster will now allow you to tag your gists by adding a #hashtag.

Hashtags are a community-driven convention for adding additional context your gists. They’re like tags on our Clips section or even Flickr, only that its added inline to your post.

You create a hashtag simply by prefixing a word with a hash symbol: #hashtag. To make this hash tag “live”, all You need to do is write a gist and add #whatever to it. It can be anywhere in the gist, not just at the end.

Happy Gisting!

Say hello to gstme.com our inhouse URL shortener!

Hello friends! We would like to introduce our brand new custom URL shortener at gstme.com

The main goals of this service are:
Reliablity
To ensure you dont have to “blindly” click on a shortened link, all gstme.com URLs points to pages on gistcaster.com, hence you have a clue as to where the URL leads.
Speed
To ensure fast resolution of Short URLs – No one likes to be kept waiting…
We’re keeping gstme.com inhouse, yeah its NEVER going public, if you need to shorten a non-gistcaster.com address, try yrn.me its a good URL shortener created by a Nigerian company.

I like it…

Some posts deserve their five minutes of fame. Others don’t. You be the judge with our new rating feature!

You can now rate any gist or clip by liking it, We realise that “Like” is a way to give positive feedback or connect with things you care about on Gistcaster. The more likes a gist gets, the more useful our community found it to be and hence such posts will be featured on our new homepage (Oops.. I’ve let the cat out…), go ahead and try it out, if any errors pop up please alert us!

Gistcaster Crew!

A New Approach to ‘Gisting’

After nearly six (months) of Gistcaster, we evaluated all the e-mails, feedbacks, comments and complains about Gistcaster, and they all pointed to different weaknesses of the Project.

For Instance, some people wanted commenting, for others 140 characters limit per gist was too small, and so on. Which led to even bigger questions: is Gistcaster the latest Nigerian “Twitter-look-alike” on the web?

All this pointed clearly to One thing; it was time to take a new approach to ‘gisting’ (Gisting isnt english – we know, pls pardon us.)

So, back to the drawing board we went and now we’re back with a total re-structuring of Gistcaster!

What is new? Well, Everything! more characters, Full commenting system, Gists by location, Access level per gist and lots more.
